derek.jpgFrom the time he was 14, Derek Pendleton was playing guitar and performing at local events with his fellow musician friends Mike Sedani and Dave Perry, developing a distinct and full pop/rock sound that was reminiscent of The Beatles and Green Day. As lead vocalist and guitarist, Pendleton wrote most of the songs, with Sedani playing bass and Perry on drums. They continued to evolve over the next decade, and while the group’s roots were on Boston’s South Shore, they began playing frequently at various clubs throughout Boston, such as TT the Bear’s, Middle East and The Paradise – drawing a loyal and growing fan base wherever they performed.

The band began calling themselves 6S, named after the number of a rented studio room – as it rhymed with “success,” and continued to develop their musical skills, material, and stage presence. In 2006 they decided to make their first album and selected TinWolf Studios based on Derek’s first meeting with owner Tom Tincler though a mutual friend.
“I met Tom Tincler when I was asked by a songwriter friend of mine to sit in on a guitar session at TinWolf studios. I found that I liked Tom, his attitude, and his methodologies, which is why I decided to record “Secrets of 6S” at TinWolf studios,” says Derek. “Tom knows how to balance his extensive knowledge and experience of audio with the wishes of strong-willed writers and musicians. Tom will listen to the song, and he will develop a sense for its sonic direction and production: spacious and ambient, dry and tight, complex and saturated, or straight and simple. Knowing the passionate stickler for detail that I am, I was surprised to learn that Tom and I most often shared the same vision and expectations. He’ll tell you when you need to sing it again or play it again. He’ll tell you if the tempo needs attention. He is open to all ideas, including innovative and experimental techniques to obtain that million dollar sound. Most importantly, regardless of musical genre, Tom will match your commitment for whatever level of quality you envision for your project.”

The band spent 14 months recording at TinWolf and have since received frequent radio play and a huge response about the album. “TinWolf Studios will give you a radio-ready product on a musician’s budget. With 3 tracks from “Secrets of 6S” receiving radio play on 2 medium sized FM radio stations, I can say I’m a satisfied customer. All of the CD reviews were glorious with notably zero negativity.”

Congratulations to Derek for his achievement.”

Derek’s winning song, “Again,” can be downloaded at www.6Sband.com. The album is available at CD Baby at http://cdbaby.com/cd/6sband. The song was among the top 1,500 entries worldwide to receive this designation in the 13th Annual Billboard World Song Contest.
